America: It’s like Britain, only with buttons.

If it keeps up, man will atrophy all his limbs but the push-button finger.

After upgrading to from Ubuntu 9.10 to Ubuntu 10.04, I noticed the Window Minimum, Maximum and Close buttons are on the top left instead of the top right.  I use both Microsoft Windows and Ubuntu all the time.  I have used some version of Windows for close to 20 years.  I expect to see the close button in the top right.  This document will show how to restore this expectation in Ubuntu 10.04.

The starting point for this blog came from this web site: http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/13535/move-window-buttons-back-to-the-right-in-ubuntu-10.04/

Here is a small view of the problem.  Windows normally has the order as Min, Max  and Close on the right side.  This window has the order as Close, Min and Max on the left side.

To fix this problem, press Alt+F2 keys to bring up the Run Application dialog box, enter gconf-editor into the text box and click the Run button.

Navigate to key /apps/metacity/general/button_layout.  Double click on button_layout key.

The description of this key is shown below.

In the pop-up dialog box, enter menu:minimize, maximize, close into the Value Text Box.  Click the OK button to save changes.  After clicking OK the changes take place immediately.

Left Side Menu Button

Right Side, Min, Max, Close Buttons
